Nathan Sorum

Owner, Sorum Financial Services

I started in the financial services business at the ripe old age of 18 with a desire to follow in my dad’s footsteps.

It was during winter of my freshman year at Luther College that I took the Series 7 securities exam and passed it.  That summer, I came back to Lebanon, transferred to Miami University to finish up my business degree, while working full time with Lutheran Brotherhood (a fraternal financial services company).  This allowed me to get my feet wet in the business working with clients while also earning the Chartered Financial Consultant (ChFC®) and Chartered Life Underwriter (CLU®) designations from the American College in Bryn Mawr. PA.

In 1996, I met the love of my life, Jamie, who is also from Lebanon, and the following year we got married.  That same year I earned my Certified Financial Planner (CFP®) designation from the College for Financial Planning in Denver, CO.  During this time period, I was also working as an agency trainer in advanced market planning.  In 1999, our first child Phillip was born, and that same year we moved to northern Indiana where I took on a District Manager position with Lutheran Brotherhood.   A couple years later, our daughter Brianna was born.  With our family complete, we came to the conclusion that we wanted to make it back to Lebanon to be closer to other family, and at the same time I came to the conclusion that management wasn’t my thing, and that I preferred working one-on-one with individual clients.  In 2002, we moved back to Lebanon and I started Sorum Financial.

Fast forward 20+ years and both kids are now graduates of Lebanon High School, just like their parents. Phillip has graduated from - and Brianna is a senior at - the University of Alabama where both were/are part of the Million Dollar Marching Band and maintain(ed) high grade levels! (Scroll down the page to read about Phillip who is joining Sorum Financial.)

Jamie and I live on our yak farm north of Lebanon where my office is also now located.  I’ve had the opportunity over the years to work with many neat people on various church committees, Lebanon Lacrosse, the Warren County Arts Council, Upward Basketball, the Lebanon Chamber, Lebanon Schools Community Audit Advisory Committee, and more. We attend Lebanon Presbyterian Church.

It’s been a busy, fulfilling 30 year stretch that has flown by.  Very early on, my dad - who was my mentor and hero - had two main bits of advice. First, he taught me that people don’t care how much I know until they know how much I care.  Second, he told me that I either needed to sprout some grey hairs or get some letters behind my name so that people would believe I knew something! I chose to get the letters, but the grey hair has started to catch up anyway!

On top of the CLU®, ChFC®, and CFP® designations mentioned earlier, those other letters behind my name include the Chartered Advisor in Senior Living (CASL®) and Chartered Advisor in Philanthropy (CAP®) designations from The American College.  I have earned the Enrolled Agent (EA) designation from the Internal Revenue Service.  I have also earned my Masters of Science in Financial Services (MSFS®) degree from The American College.

I hold Series 7, 24, 53, and 65 securities registrations through LPL Financial and also have my life, health, and variable products and property & casualty insurance licenses. I think my background puts me in a great position of having broad, comprehensive education and experience under my belt with which to help people.  Yet God willing, I should have many years of work ahead of me so that I will continue to be able to see the financial plans I put in place come to fruition.  And now, with my son Phillip working in the practice, I look forward to passing this wisdom on to him! I hope that you might allow us the opportunity to meet you to determine if we have a basis for working together!  Thank you for your time and consideration!

I had always been the type of person that was determined not to follow in his dad’s footsteps. This wasn’t anything against my dad; I simply wanted to walk my own path. However, after years of watching my father have a positive impact on his clients’ lives while treating them with the utmost respect and conducting business in an ethical way, I knew I HAD to be in financial services! Since then, I haven't looked back.

I attended The University of Alabama where I graduated in May of 2022. While in school, I achieved a double major in Finance and Economics with a minor in Personal Wealth Management and made the dean's list every semester.

I hold the series 7 and 66 through LPL Financial and have life, health, and variable products and property & casualty insurance licenses. I have also begun earning letters behind my name! I now have two designations! The first being the Wealth Management Specialist™ designation and the second being the Accredited Asset Management Specialist™ designation. Both are awarded by The College for Financial Planning - A Kaplan Company! As I accumulate the required work experience, I look to add more designations behind my name.

My life experiences, my business studies, and my faith have created a firm foundation on which I can continue to build and grow. It will all be used to serve my clients in the best way possible as I continuously grow in my career.
